HARTFORD CITY - The goals are coming in to view.

Jay County's volleyball team put together three straight wins for the first time Thursday, and pulled within one victory of .500 and within a game of reaching double-digit wins.

With their 25-12, 20-25, 25-16, 25-18 win over the Blackford Bruins, the Patriots pushed their record to 9-10. They have not reached the 10-win mark in a season since 2003, but have a goal of 18-plus this year.

Shelby Rines led the defensive effort with 16 digs, and shared the team-high of three aces with Erica Clark. She added 12 points and three kills.

Clark paced the Patriots with 22 assists and 13 points to go along with five digs and three kills. Sarah Westgerdes finished with nine kills and four blocks, Sarah Mescher had nine kills and Theresa Reinhart added 10 digs.

Tigers top FR football

VERSAILLES, Ohio - Fort Recovery's eighth grade football team put up a good fight Thursday, but dropped a 20-14 decision to the Versailles Tigers. The Tribe's seventh grade squad fell 20-0.

Shane Brunswick and Craig Kaiser handled the scoring for the eighth grade team, teaming up on a pair of touchdown passes. Brunswick tossed 40 yards to Kaiser for the first score and 35 yards for the second.

Adam Rohrer added a two-point conversion run.

EJ splits with Dennis

The East Jay Middle School seventh grade volleyball team defeated Richmond Dennis 25-24, 23-25, 15-9 Thursday while the eighth graders lost 25-18, 25-13.

Whitney Somers scored 13 points in leading the seventh grade Chiefs to victory. Mariah Horniday added eight points.

Stephanie Schwieterman had seven points and five aces for the eighth graders.[[In-content Ad]]
