Coldren crowned state champ

INDIANAPOLIS — Although the Patriots weren’t able to bring home a state title from IU Natatorium, two Jay County residents have a champion in the family.
Cody Coldren, grandchild of Jay County residents John and Diane Coldren, was crowned the 1-meter diving champion Saturday at the IHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving State Finals.
Coldren, a senior at Hamilton Southeastern, scored 536.20 points to earn the title.
Homestead’s Kevin Frebel (525.25) and Elliot Cecil (461.5) of Park Tudor placed second and third respectively.
Frebel and Coldren were the top two divers at the Fishers regional, and Frebel had the top seed after Saturday morning’s preliminaries with 250.1 points.
Coldren trailed by 2.2 points but used a strong semifinal performance to take a 7.25-point lead heading into the finals.
Coldren placed second at the state meet last year.
Sanders, Hare win titles
CRAWFORDSVILLE — Two East Jay Middle School wrestlers earned titles Saturday at the Southmont Super 16 tournament.
Kaimen Sanders and Gaven Hare both won individual titles for East Jay.
Finishing as runners-up for the Chiefs were Mason Winner, Daniel Ostrowski and Jacob Ferguson. Bailey Ludy and David Kohler placed fourth.
Additionally, 12 EJMS wrestlers received all-academic awards in the tournament. Derek Bryan, Chandler Chapman, Caleb Chenoweth, Dawson Frasher, Thomas Hemmelgarn, Joseph Hilty, Kevin Myers, Zack Twigg, Dylan Racster, Mitchel Frasher, Kohler and Winner were all given all-academic honors.
Also receiving the award were managers Mallory Bost and Christian Scott.
