Records fell fast and furious on Saturday, with Sophie Bader and Anne Vormohr each breaking three conference marks to lead Jay County to victory.
The cousins also helped the Jay County Summer Swim Team set two relay records as it won the Wabash Valley Conference Championships with 2,471 points.
Jay County trailed for much of the day, but dominated the breaststroke to take control and then pulled away from South Adams (2,388) with a strong effort in the freestyle relay. In all, the team set 11 WVC records, nine pool records and nine team records while winning half of the individual events and nine out of 20 relays.
Wells Community (2,161) was third in the four-team field, and North Adams Central (839) finished last.
Bader set conference, pool and team records with winning times of 2 minutes, 31.68 seconds, in the 13-14-year-old girls individual medley, 30.48 in the butterfly and 36.43 in the breaststroke. Vormohr had WVC, pool and team marks in the 13-14-year-old girls long freestyle in 1:00.82 and short freestyle in 27.74, and also added a conference record in the backstroke in 31.61.
They also teamed with Ashley Mark and Sydney Mathias for conference, pools and team records in the medley (2:14.46) and freestyle (2:00.26) relays.
Alex Bader broke WVC, pool and team marks in the 11-12-year-old girls breaststroke in 36.74, and Katy Smeltzer set a conference record in the 15-and-older girls short freestyle in 29.23.
The team of Mary Hudson, Eme Miller, Caitlin Mark and Katy Smeltzer also set new conference, pool and team records with a time of 2:00.26 in the freestyle relay.
Each of the four Bader sisters won three events, with Alex adding victories in the butterfly and individual medley. Mara Bader took the 8-and-younger girls long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley, and Eliza Bader was first in the 9-10-year-old girls long freestyle, individual medley and short freestyle.
Hudson earned wins the 15-and-older girls butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.
Abilene Hough, Alex LeMaster, Eme Miller and Josh Lykins each won a pair of events, and Konner Sommers, Lilly Clemmons and Ashlyn Dow added one victory apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
