Cope leads JC runners (10/06/2008)
Middle school cross country
CARMEL - Dylan Cope led the runners from Jay County at Saturday's Indiana Middle School Cross Country Championship.
Cope placed 31st for the East Jay Middle School boys, who were 12th out of 27 teams with 388 points. The Chief girls placed eighth out of 24 teams with 309, and West Jay's girls had two runners finish in the top half of the 185-athlete field.
Cope edged Selma's Brandon Blackmer by fourth tenths of a second to finish 31st in the boys race in 10-minutes, 53.3 seconds.
Amber Huelskamp led all Jay County girls with a 34th-place finish for East Jay in 12:18. Miranda Gerber of West Jay was next in 45th at 12:35, just one second ahead of 46th-place finisher Abigail Johnson of East Jay.
Megan Price placed 72nd for West Jay in 13:03. The remaining top-five runners for East Jay finished in a pack, with Alex Loy 99th in 13:24.9, Sammi Compton 100th at 13:25 and Patricia Hein 101st in 13:25.1
Zane Shreve trailed Cope for the East Jay boys in 76th at 11:25. Jalen Ryder was 90th in 11:32 followed by Kyle Scott (103rd - 11:43) and Austin Muhlenkamp (144th - 12:19).
The top results in the East Jay in the reserve races came from Ayami Kageyama (87th - 14:18) and Chaz Carroll (106th - 13:16).[[In-content Ad]]
