Local roundup

BLUFFTON - Kyle DeArmond couldn't quite match the effort Andrew Caffee put up Wednesday. But he still had a pretty solid night.

DeArmond drove in five runs to lead the South Adams baseball team to a 10-3 victory over the Bluffton Tigers just one night after Caffee finished with seven RBIs.

The Starfires trailed 3-2 after three innings, but took control with four runs each in the fifth and sixth.

DeArmond led the effort with three hits, including a double, two runs and five RBIs. Caffee had another big game as well, going 4-for-4 with a triple and three runs.

Brent Habegger added three hits and three runs, and Daniel Bollenbacher had a triple and two RBIs.

Jordan Sharp went the distance for the win, allowing just one earned run on five hits. He struck out seven batters.

The Patriots spotted the Northeastern Knights softball team five runs Thursday and couldn't quite recover in a 6-4 loss.

Jay County gave up five runs, four of which were unearned, in the opening frame as it slipped to 15-8 on the year. It left eight runners in scoring position in the defeat.

Shae Keller took the loss, but only one of the six runs against her was earned. She gave up just three hits and four walks while striking out 11.

Kaelee Keller was 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Morgan Locke and Amber Edmundson each finished 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Ashley Bunch added two hits and one run.

Jay County added two more runs, and Phil Powell completed his stretch of 22/3 scoreless innings of relief for the win. Mike Masters also tossed three scoreless innings in the victory.

McGill led the Patriots by going 3-for-4 with a double and three runs. Mayfield and Colton Lombardo each had two hits, including a double, and two runs, and Eric Homan added three hits.[[In-content Ad]]
