Defensive effort lifts Tribe freshmen over St. Henry (01/06/04)

Solid defense lifted the Fort Recovery freshman girls basketball team to a 26-19 victory over the St. Henry Redskins Monday.

The teams were deadlocked at 9-9 after one period, but the Indians (5-1) locked down defensively after that. They allowed just three second-quarter points and none in the third to go up 23-12 on the way to the victory.

Abby Niekamp paced the Tribe with seven points and four rebounds. Brittany Brackman scored six points, and Shelly Gehret pulled down eight boards.

FR boys lose pair

The Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team lost each of its last two games, dropping a 58-33 decision against the St. Henry Redskins Monday and a tight 37-31 loss to the Jackson Center Tigers Saturday.

Kenton Sudhoff reached double figures for the Indians with 10 points against St. Henry.

David Schmitt had eight, and Tony Diller added seven.

Matt Tobe was the leading scorer with 10 points against the Tigers. Jordan Staugler, Kraig Wendel and Sudhoff each had six.

Fort tickets

Advance tickets for Fort Recovery’s basketball games this weekend will go on sale Thursday.

Tickets for the Indians’ home game against St. Henry Friday and their trip to Lincolnview Saturday will be sold in the high school office Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. The will also be available in the high school office Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and in the middle school office Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Advance tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the door will be $5.

Soccer league

Registration is now open for the Jay County spring travel soccer teams at the Jay Community Center.

Teams are planned for boys and girls in the under-19, under-14, under-12 and under-10 age groups.

Registration forms are due Friday, Jan. 30.
