The games were all close. In the end, however, the Eagles always came out on top.
Jay County High School's volleyball team kept Class 3A No. 2 Delta within striking distance Thursday, but fell 25-22, 25-18, 25-20 on their home court.
The Patriots ran off three straight points to pull within 22-20 before dropping the first game of their season opener. They were within 19-16 in game two only to have Kaitlin Walton blast back-to-back aces during a 4-0 run that put the Eagles in control.
Senior Ashley Langenkamp paced JCHS in the defeat with six assists, three points and two blocks. Lacey Randolph posted team highs of eight digs and six points.
Mariah Hornaday finished with three kills, Becky Muhlenkamp totaled two kills and three points and Maria Murphy had a pair of blocks.
Walton racked up 12 kills for Delta, while Morgan Hahn added 11. Sara McGuire finished with 12 digs.
Junior varsity
The Patriots nearly forced a third game, but fell 25-14, 25-24 to Delta.
Tanner Martin had eight digs, five points and two kills in the defeat. Megan May followed with seven digs.
