Delta hands East Jay volleyball three defeats (09/20/05)

Delta proved too powerful Monday night, handing each of the East Jay volleyball teams a defeat.

East Jay’s sixth grade spikers came closest to a victory, winning the opening game before falling 16-25, 25-5, 15-13.

The seventh grade squad fell 25-10, 25-21, and the eighth graders took a 25-12, 25-14 defeat.

Kassi Hemmelgarn paced the sixth grade Chiefs as they fell just short in their first match of the season. She finished with nine points.

Danielle Wellman followed with four points, Nikka Chaney had two aces for two points and Megan May notched one kill.

Brittany Manor posted team highs in points (nine), assists (eight) and kills (three) for the seventh grade team. She also had 10 digs.

Abby Denney finished with 10 digs, seven points and three kills, and Laura Castillo had 15 digs and five kills.

Lindsey Wellman finished with six points and two digs in the eighth grade match. Liz Walker totaled four assists.

EJ eighth grade rolls

HUNTINGTON — East Jay’s eighth grade football team racked up 250 rushing yards as it dominated Huntington Riverview Saturday 38-12. The seventh grade squad was blanked 30-0.

Ben Vance paced the eighth grade Chiefs (2-1) with 109 yards and two touchdowns behind the starting offensive line of Colton Prescott, Tyler Freyburgher, Cody Thompson, Trevor Walker, Kyler Blowers and Tyler Aker. Back-up linemen on the team are Trevan Eddie, Cody Stocker, Michael Stephen and Devon Huntsman.

Adam Coats added 61 rushing yards and a touchdown. Nick Stephen ran for 55 yards and a score and Jacob Chenoweth had 33 yards on the ground.

Freyburgher finished with a team-best 12 tackles.

T.J. Teeple managed 37 yards as the seventh grade team fell to 1-2. He also led the team with seven tackles.[[In-content Ad]]
