Delta holds on to top JC (05/02/06)
Baseball roundup
MUNCIE — Spotting Delta a five-run lead turned out to be too much of a challenge to overcome, even with a pair of home runs.
Jay County’s baseball team got long balls from John Retter and Tony McCowan after falling behind 5-0 in the opening inning Monday, but lost to the host Delta Eagles 7-6.
The Patriots (6-8) were down 7-2 after the third inning, then cut the deficit with back-to-back homers from Retter and McCowan to lead off the fourth. They scored two more runs in the seventh for the final margin.
Michael Jobe took the loss, allowing seven runs — four earned — on 13 hits and four walks. He struck out five batters in six innings.
Retter also had a double as he scored twice and drove in two runs. Luke Goetz finished 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

ROCKFORD, Ohio — At 8-2, the South Adams baseball team had been in every game it played this year and won most. That wasn’t the case when the Starfires crossed the border into Ohio Monday night.
The Parkway Panthers posted four runs in the first inning and four more in the fourth in an 11-0, six-inning win over SAHS.
South Adams managed just one hit in the defeat, a single by Thomas Masterson.
Masterson was also the losing pitching, giving up eight runs — five earned — on seven hits. He walked three and struck out two in four innings.[[In-content Ad]]
