MUNCIE — The Patriots were fans of the sixth hole at Maplewood Golf Course.
Abby Denney and Macey Gerber each birdied the par-4 hole Tuesday, helping lead the Jay County High School girls golf team to a 199-266 victory over the host Union Rockets.
Denney easily took medalist honors with her 42 as all five Patriots scored better than the top Union player, Marie Lumpkin with a 60.
In addition to her birdie on the sixth, Denney added a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole as she played the final five holes at 1-under-par.
Gerber was 2-over-par for the first six holes, racking up three pars and a bogey before her birdie on the sixth. She finished with the No. 2 score for the Patriots (1-1) with a 47.
Brittany Stevens had two pars in her round of 54, and Whitney Gray completed the team score with a 56. Alysia Fennig shot 59.

Fort golfers last
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys team finished last among the sixth teams at the Mercer Country Invitational Tuesday, posting a score of 373.
Jared Kahlig posted the top score for the Indians, racking up six straight pars on the way to a 3-over-par front nine. He added five more on the back to shoot 81 overall.
Gage Retz followed Kahlig with three pars for a 96, and Shawn Roessner and Elijah Kahlig each finished at 98. Derek Rammel had a 101, and Hayden Pottkotter shot 108.
Chad Schroer shot a 104 to lead the junior varsity team, which finished fifth with a 437. Kent Retz followed him with a 107, and Stewy Alig finished with a 108.

Saints top Stars
FORT WAYNE — Kristen Lehman finished just one stroke short of earning medalist honors, but she was the only South Adams player to break 60 as the Starfire girls team fell 201-244 to the host Bishop Luers Saints.
Lehman turned in the lone par for SAHS on the 401-yard, par-5 16th hole at Brookwood Golf Club. The also had four bogeys for a 49 as she finished a stroke behind Alex Eagleson and Lexie Hamel of the Saints.
Adrienne Pursley finished in the No. 2 spot for the Starfires with a 60. Sam Schwartz added a 67, and Kristal All completed the team score with a 68.
