Denney leads Patriots at MC invite

FARMLAND - Abby Denney racked up three of the Patriots' five pars, and had their lone birdie, Tuesday as they finished in the middle of the pack at the Monroe Central Invitational.
Jay County posted a score of 220 for fourth place in the tournament, which was shortened to nine holes because of rain. Yorktown won the tournament at Hickory Hill Golf Club with a score of 174, and Muncie Central (192) was second in the six-team field.
Denney started a hot streak with a birdie on the 355-yard, par-5 sixth hole. She added back-to-back pars on the 246-yard, par-4 seventh and the 120-yard, par-3 eighth.
The junior also had a par on the 380-yard, par-5 first hole, and bogeyed the 272-yard, par-4 fourth hole as she shot 46.
Macey Gerber tallied the remaining pars for the Patriots. She played even on the fourth hole and the 278-yard, par-4 ninth.
Brittany Steven bogeyed each of the first two holes on the way to a 57, and Whitney Gray had one bogey as she shot 66. Cortney Myers finished at 84.

WESTFIELD - Adam Gray tied for seventh place in the Pepsi Indiana Junior Golf Program Masters Tour Championship Thursday at Wood Wind Golf Club.
The 2009 Jay County High School graduate turned in a 36-hole score of 147 to tie Jacob Yocum of Lafayette. They were seven strokes behind champion E.J. Tackett of Huntington.
Gray shot a 2-over-par 73 in his first round and followed it up with a 74. He had four birdies in the tournament - one each on the par-5 478-yard sixth hole, 490-yard ninth and 495-yard 18th, and one on the 455-yard, par-4 fifth.
Locals win tourney
GREENSBURG - Several athletes from Jay County recently helped their baseball team to a tournament title.
The Jaguars 13-and-younger squad won all of its games this weekend at the Greensburg August Slam. Local players were Blake Boughman, Tyler Langdon, Jon Lowe, Toby McCallister and Kyle Selvey.[[In-content Ad]]
