RICHMOND — The Patriots ran into a juggernaut Thursday.
The Richmond Red Devils, ranked eighth in the state, posted five scores of 44 or better Thursday night. Those all surpassed the top Jay County score, a 45 by Trisha Champ, as the Patriots fell 163-225 in girls golf action at Highland Lake Golf Course.
Melissa Messler of Richmond took match medalist honors with a 2-over-par 38 on the back nine at Highland Lake, with teammate Alex Bell two strokes back. Maggie Flynn shot 42, Anna Trotter completed the team score with a 43 and Sarah Habschmidt had a 44.
Champ shot 45 for the second straight match, finishing with seven bogeys. Her lone par came on the 340-yard, par-4 12th hole.
Alissa McMillan posted the only other par for the Patriots on the 304-yard, par-4 15th en route to a personal-best 55. She also had bogeys on holes 12 and 16.
Ashley Bunch was the only other Jay County varsity player to post a score of bogey or better on any hole.
She had three bogeys to finish one stroke behind McMillan with a 56.
Cindy Muhlenkamp rounded out the Patriot team score with a 70, and Ivy Simons shot 77.
Jay County’s junior varsity team finished with a 265. Richmond did not post a JV team score.
Brittney Lewis was tops among the Patriots’ six JV golfers. She fired pars on the 11th and 16th holes to match Bunch’s 56.
Alex Bunch bogied No. 17 and finished with a 68, Jennifer Hunt shot 70 and Rachel Osterholt had a 71. Amanda Barnett finished at 77, and Amy Nichols came in with an 80.[[In-content Ad]]
