Display Craft softball rallies in fifth (05/13/04)

Display Craft got two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Lehman and Bixler (Berne) Wednesday 11-10 in Portland Junior League Major League softball action. It was one of three games on the night, all of which saw both teams score double-digit runs.

Jay County REMC topped Americare 17-16 in Minor League softball. In Rookie League baseball Coca-Cola defeated Doane Pet Care 17-14.

Display Craft trailed 10-9 after the top of the fifth inning, but Erica Bruggeman walked to lead off the bottom of the frame and Alissa Myers followed with a double. Jamie Kauffman added a single in the inning, Bruggeman and Myers both scored and Kauffman held Lehman and Bixler scoreless in the sixth.

Kauffman finished with three hits and two runs. She also picked up the pitching victory.

Stephanie Morgan had two hits, including a triple, and two runs, and Candace Betz finished 3-for-3. Also scoring two runs apiece for Display Craft were Bruggeman, Myers, Morgan and Kristi Morningstar.

Lindsay Batt had two hits and three runs for Lehman and Bixler. Ashley Augsberger and Jordan Lehman added two runs each.

REMC 17, Americare 16

REMC took advantage of 19 walks and four hit-by-pitches as Shannon Fuller, Kylie Gardner and Ranae Rae each scored three times without the benefit of a hit. Laura Castillo had three hits and two runs, and Abby Denny added two hits, including a double, and a pair of runs.

Cara Garringer had four hits and five runs for Americare, Brittany Manor had four hits and three runs, and Lindsay Wellman added three hits, including two doubles, and four runs.

Coca-Cola 17, Doane 16

Case Retter homered for one of his two hits, and he also scored three times for Coca-Cola.

Zach Pryor and Graham Haines each had three hits, including a double, and Mike Nichols, Cade VanSkyock, Chandler Woodward and Chris Taylor added two hits apiece. Pryor scored three times, and VanSkyock, Woodward, Haines and Dakota Derrickson each scored twice.

Jason Huston had a big day for Doane from his ninth spot in the order, finishing with two home runs and a triple.

Pair finishes Mini

A couple of Jay County residents took part in the Indianapolis Life 500 Festival Mini-Marathon last weekend.

Jay County High School assistant football coach Tim Millspaugh and JCHS junior Ryan Younts competed in the 13.1-mile event. They finished in two hours and 15 minutes.[[In-content Ad]]
