Rockets top the Nook

A two-hit pitching performance from Matt Ousley helped lift the Portland Rockets to a 4-1 win over Shady Nook at Carrington Field in Fort Wayne Thursday.

Ousley struck out 12 Shady Nook batters over seven innings.

Shady Nook had jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second with an unearned run that came on a botched double-play.

But the Rockets bounced back in the third, scoring three runs. And Matt Gard homered in the fourth inning to provide a little extra insurance.

The win was the Rockets’ seventh in a row, bringing their record to 13-4 for the season. They’re 5-0 in the Fort Wayne League.

On Saturday, the Rockets travel to Schoeff Park in Fort Wayne to take on Crumback in a double-header beginning at 1 p.m.

Kiwanis victorious

Kiwanis topped Local 1620 Thursday in Pee Wee Reese League action, while two games were decided in the Willie Mays League by the 10-run rule.

With a double by Tyler Aker and RBI single by Isaac Bruggeman, Kiwanis won 5-3. Christopher Skirvin, Andre Duke, Trenton Detro, and Ben Walter each singled for Local 1620.

In Mays League action, Pak-A-Sak defeated MainSource Bank 14-2 and Inman U-Lock beat JaMar 11-1.

Brandon Ferner doubled twice — each time for an RBI — for Pak-A-Sak. Colton Chapman tripled for Inman U-Lock, while Andy Haffner had a double and two singles and a pair of RBIs.
