Doubles teams power Jay Co. netters
JCHS girls tennis
BLUFFTON - The doubles duos led the way to the Jay County High School girls tennis team's first win of the season Thursday, 3-2 over the Bluffton Tigers.
Both doubles teams - Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman, and Emily Huntsman and Becky Muhlenkamp - had a shutout set on the evening.
Saxman and Megan Huntsman cruised through their first set at No. 1 against Annessa Reiff and Jessica Ellenberger. They trailed 2- 1 in the second before taking control again in a 6-0, 6-4 win.
Muhlenkamp and Emily Huntsman took a reverse path, battling back and forth in the first set at No. 2 with Samantha Drew and Megan Evans. They were up just 5-4 in the first set before winning seven consecutive games to complete a 6-4, 6-0 win.
Mariah Clark earned the other JCHS victory, defeating Shelby Neuenschwander 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Kayla Martin lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Hannah McAbee fell 6-1, 6-2 to Amy Baker.
Junior varsity
Jay County won all nine matches, including four shutouts, against the Tigers.
Alyssa Rigby topped Jazmin Roper 8-0 and No. 3 singles, and Megan McGraw defeated Mykayla Robenbeck by the same score at No. 4. At No. 2 doubles, Danielle Chenoweth and Lissa Simms beat Katie Murray and Jeri Davis 8-0.
The No. 1 doubles pair of Ashley Caupp and Katie Link blanked Franzi Sevring and Nele Rathje 6-0 at No. 1 doubles.
Other winners for JCHS were Brittany White, Dezi Clay, Joni Degler, Jessica Ooten and the team of Alicia Degler and Chelsea Kimmel.[[In-content Ad]]
