Eagle 6th graders win again (02/19/04)

The West Jay sixth grade boys basketball team improved to 2-0 Wednesday with a 48-22 domination of Montpelier.

West Jay took a 12-2 lead after one quarter and was even more dominant in the second. The Eagles held Montpelier scoreless for a 33-2 halftime lead on the way to the big victory.

Michael Daniels paced West Jay with 10 points, and Drew Locke had eight.

Josh Beaty had seven points, and Taylor Farmer and Willis Mayfield each added six.

Jay AAU wins

Jay County’s fifth grade AAU boys basketball team won its first game of the season, edging Blackford 39-38 Tuesday.

Aaron Emerick paced Jay County with 12 points, and Brad Kauffman also reached double figures with 11. Austin Mann had seven points and eight rebounds, and Drew Houck and Ryan Miskins each reached had double-digit rebounds with 13 and 10 respectively.

Winter swim note

The Jay County Winter Swim Team’s meet scheduled for Monday has been canceled.

The team will instead have practice Monday at JCHS from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Little League

Registration for the Ridgeville Lions Little League will take place during the next several weeks.

Players can sign up for the upcoming season at the Ridgeville Fire Department Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will also be registration sessions Wednesday, March 3 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 6 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Baseball tryouts
