Eagles get three wins vs. Southern Wells (03/06/07)

PONETO - Three West Jay Middle School wrestlers scored pins Monday in a 26-18 loss to the host Southern Wells Raiders.
Dustin Tighe (80) and Anthony Skeens (85) both finished their matches in the first period with pins in 15 and 35 seconds respectively. Drake Meska (100) earned the other Eagle win with a pin in 2-minutes, 25 seconds.
Scott Finnerty (105), Nathan Drumm (120) and Kyle Garringer (135) each picked up junior varsity victories.
West Jay was also in action at the Adams Central Invitational Saturday with Meska scoring a second-place finish. He went 2-1 while Drumm (120) finished fourth with a 2-2 mark.
McCowan wins big
Thomas McCowan of Dunkirk took home all the top honors Saturday as The Brown Bowl hosted the 2007 Junior Invitational.
McCowan was the individual champion, teamed with Andy Hughes to win the doubles crown and led The Brown Bowl to the team title.
Just one of his 10 games came in under 200 as he averaged a 221 for the day. He defeated Eric Widener of Fort Recovery 239-210 in the championship match.
McCowan and Hughes, both members of the Jay County High Rollers, took the doubles title a total of 1,702. They finished ahead of High Roller teammates John Moore and Dustin Taylor (second) and Cody Scott and Coty Bragg (third).
McCowan, Taylor, Scott, Jon Overmyer and Jacob Coy led The Brown Bowl to the team title with 4,451.
Winchester Bowl was second at 4,225.[[In-content Ad]]
