Eagles top Monroe Central (01/19/06)

PARKER CITY — Josh Beaty turned in his best game of the season to lead the West Jay eighth grade boys basketball team to a 57-50 victory over the Monroe Central Golden Bears Wednesday. The Eagle seventh graders lost 46-16.
Beaty scored a season-high 26 points for West Jay, which improved to 10-3. The Eagles opened a 10-point lead at halftime, and were ahead by 14 after three quarters before holding off Monroe Central in the fourth.
Taylor Farmer also had a big game as he added 17 points.
The West Jay seventh graders went scoreless in the second quarter as they dropped to 1-11. Zach Cash finished with six points.
The Eagle teams also played Tuesday night against the Southern Wells Raiders.
Dusty Rodgers had six points as the seventh graders took a 30-24 defeat.
Taylor Farmer scored 11 points in the eighth grade team’s 42-33 loss.
Two advance to state
NEW CASTLE — A pair of competitors from the Dunkirk Elks Lodge 1776 hoop shoot contest advanced to the state finals.
East Jay’s Hannah Ainsworth made 17-of-25 shots to take first place in the 10-11-year-old girls division. She will advance to the state competition in Lebanon.
Jake Greenberg of Delta also advanced, shooting 21-of-25 to win the 12-13-year-old boys competition at New Castle.[[In-content Ad]]
