East Jay gets past St. Joe (10/09/07)
EJMS volleyball
East Jay Middle School's volleyball teams made it a sweep Monday, all scoring victories over St. Joe.
The EJMS eighth graders rallied for a 22-25, 25-11, 15-14 win over the team from Decatur. The seventh grade team won 25-21, 25-23, and the sixth grade Chiefs took a 25-20, 25-22 victory.
Kassi Hemmelgarn led the eighth grade triumph with 14 points, 12 assists and four kills. Alyssa Rigby followed with nine assists and six points for the Chiefs (10-5), and Courtney Myers had six points and five digs. Jennifer Dirksen came up with eight digs, and Mariah Hornaday had seven kills.
Rachelle Jackson racked up 18 points, including seven aces, and four digs for the seventh grade team (12-4), and Hannah Ainsworth had eight assists. Katie Reier notched seven digs, Jill Dirksen had five points and Gabbie Cross totaled three kills.
Ali Inman's four points and two digs led the victory for the sixth graders (3-5). Katie Aker also had four points.
The EJMS sixth grade team was also in action Saturday with the A team falling to R.J. Baskett 23-25, 25-22, 15-8 and the B team losing 25-15, 25-11.
Rachel Ferguson had six digs and five points for the A team, and Kaitlin Petro added seven digs and two kills. Inman scored eight points, and Aker finished with four kills.
Cydney Huey had four points for the B team, and Rachelle Boolman and Inman each added three. Haley Louth and Bailey Weatherhead added two kills apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
