PORTLAND — The East Jay baseball team kept the offense rolling Monday with a 13-4 victory over Monroe Central.

East Jay (15-3) got at least two runs from five different players, and racked up nine hits in all. It scored six times in the bottom of the first inning after falling behind 3-0 in the top and never trailed again as it added five more runs in the fifth.

Phillip Powell and Dalton McGill paced the offensive onslaught, each finishing with a double and a pair of runs. McGill added a single and an RBI, and Powell had a pair of RBIs.

Colton Lombardo racked up three hits, including a double. Trey Dunn scored three runs, and Kyle Simmons and Billy Wellman added two runs apiece.

Wellman picked up the victory on the mound as he allowed four runs — two earned in the first four innings. He also finished with eight strikeouts as he and Kyle Simmons blanked Monroe Central over the final four innings.

Simmons gave up just one hit while striking out five batters in the final three frames.[[In-content Ad]]
