East Jay runners top Fort Recovery, Westside (04/19/05)

PORTLAND — East Jay’s boys track team got a bunch of victories Monday, while the girls combined four wins with just enough second-place finishes.

The Chief boys won all but two events, taking first with 64 points as they hosted Union City Westside and Fort Recovery Monday. Westside was second with 49 points and Fort Recovery had 12.

The girls team had just four wins, but had enough depth to pull off a 52-49 victory over Westside. Fort Recovery was third with 26 points.

Brandon Reynard had a big night for the East Jay boys, winning a trio of events.

He led a one-two finish in his first victory, winning the hurdles in 17.11 seconds. Dexter Shreve was second.

Reynard also took the 100-meter dash in 12.33 and the 200 dash in 24.95.

Lance Franklin and Dexter Shreve each added two victories. Franklin’s wins came in the 400 run in 1-minute, 0.8 seconds and the shot put at 38 feet, one inch, while Shreve won the high jump at five feet, six inches and the long jump at 17 feet, 21/2 inches.

The only other individual win for the Chiefs came from Patrick Johnson in the 1,600 run in 5:44.66. They also took first in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Jordan Hess had the top finish for Fort Recovery as he placed second behind Shreve in the high jump at five feet, two inches.

East Jay had four wins on the girls side and Fort Recovery had three, but the Chiefs took second place in seven events to earn the team win.

Erika Butcher paced a one-two finish for the Chiefs in the 800 run, winning in 2:52.78. Kati Butcher was second, in 2:54.

Kaelee Keller placed first in the hurdles in 19 seconds, and Tiffany Helms took the 1,600 run in 6:18.75. Cori Vormohr picked up the other win in the shot put at 29 feet, three inches.

Anne Koesters and Rachel Tobe each grabbed a victory for Fort Recovery as the Indians were first in two of the four field events. Koesters won the discus ahead of Vormohr at 87 feet, eight inches, and Tobe took the high jump at four feet, five inches.

Emily May added a victory for the Tribe in the 400 run in 1:07.65.

East Jay dominated the B team competition with 78 points for the girls team and 69 for the boys. Westside followed with 24 and 28 points respectively, and Fort Recovery had 14 and 20.

Carrie Minnich, Jordan McMillan and Caitlin Gilbert each won two events as the Chief girls finished first in 14 out of 15 attempts. Joe Imel picked up two of the 10 victories for the East Jay boys.[[In-content Ad]]
