East Jay runners top two

BERNE — The East Jay Middle School cross country teams came out on top Monday in a three-team meet against West Jay and host South Adams.
The EJMS girls defeated the Starfire girls 27-29. In boys competition East Jay topped South Adams 27-32 and West Jay 15-48. SAMS defeated West Jay 19-41.
Megan Wellman of East Jay won the girls race in 12:53 with teammate Emi Minnich three seconds behind in second place. Kellie Fortkamp was seventh in 14:18 followed by Sophie Bader (14:50) and Erika Kunkler (ninth - 14:55).
South Adams’ Ryan Ford won the boys race in 11:30, and Kody Coates was second in 12:22. Cole Litwiller finished sixth in 12:50 ahead of Jared Grabau (17th - 14:05) and Brian Goodwin (18th - 14:22).
East Jay’s Evan Ryder finished third in 12:33 with teammates Adam Jutte fourth in 12:40 and Tyler Wendel fifth in 12:43. Matthew Cox was seventh in 13:03, and Bryan Schwieterman placed eighth in 13:07.
Tanner Craw led West Jay in ninth with a time of 13:12. Dakota Grove was 14th in 13:52 followed by Travis Barton (20th - 14:40), Luke Swartz (24th - 15:27) and John Paquette (25th - 15:41).

JC freshmen fall
SHENANDOAH — Jay County High School’s football C-team fell to a 35-0 defeat Monday against the Shenandoah Raiders.
James Drayton and Jacob Harter each had five tackles in the loss. The Patriots are 1-4 on the season.

Delta defeats EJ
MUNCIE — All three of East Jay Middle School’s volleyball teams suffered losses to the host Delta Eagles Monday.
The sixth graders won their first game before falling 16-25, 25-11, 15-3. The seventh grade team lost 25-23, 25-4, and the eighth graders fell 25-9, 25-12.
Gracie Runkle had five aces for the sixth grade Chiefs. Lizzy Schoenlein and Isabelle Minnich added one kill apiece.
Abby Reier had eight digs and two kills for the seventh grade team. Hannah Lykins finished with seven points, including four aces.
Catherine Dunn paced the eighth grade team with four digs and three kills. Faith Parr scored six points.

Bilbrey, Faulkner lead
Gabriella Bilbrey and Quinn Faulkner led their teams to victory Saturday in the Jay Community Center Boomer soccer and flag football leagues.
Bilbrey racked up nine goals to lead the Dynamite to a 10-7 win over the Mustangs, who got all seven of their scores from Allen Dues. Faulkner was the top scorer in the football league with two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion in the Vikings’ 14-2 win over the Colts.
Other top scorers in the soccer leagues were Carter Link with five goals, Joshua Dowlen and Gavin Muhlenkamp each with four and Hannah Phillips and Cory Piercy with three apiece. In football action Jackson Lyons, Brody Auker and Rylee Johnson each scored two touchdowns.[[In-content Ad]]
