East Jay runs over Driver (10/10/2008)

WINCHESTER - The Chiefs ran all over the field Thursday.

Cade Price produced his second straight 200-plus yard rushing game to lead the East Jay eighth grade football team to a 30-6 win over host Driver. And Ryan Claytor gained more than 100 yards on just seven carries as the seventh graders won 26-6.

Price picked up his 216 yards on 16 carries, and Gerardo Perez chipped in a rushing touchdown. Brock McFarland ran for two TDs, passed for one to Ethan Bruggeman and had four tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery.

Claytor racked up 129 yards and two TDs on the ground, and also caught a 43-yard scoring pass from Wesley Hibbard. Zack Fullenkamp ran seven times for 66 yards and a TD, and Dylan McKibben totaled four tackles and two sacks.

Liechty, SA win again

WOODBURN - South Adams came away from Thursday's meet with a double repeat.

Evan Liechty won his second straight Allen County Athletic Conference championship, leading the Starfire boys to their second consecutive team title. They had all five runners in the top six to win with 15 points while Adams Central was a distant second with 74.

South Adams' girls scored 101 points to finish fourth behind Leo (24), Southern Wells (72) and Bluffton (87).

Liechty cruised to the ACAC crown as he was more than a minute faster than every runner on the other six teams. He finished in 10-minutes, 15 seconds, and his closest competitor was teammate Brody Shane in 10:29.

Joel Hawbaker placed third in 11:06 with Andrew Steffen fourth in 11:12 and Brett Affolder sixth at 11:16.

Kristen Muselman was the runner-up in the girls race, posting a time of 12 minutes flat. Loren Sparks was 22nd in 13:34 followed by Allison Amstutz (27th - 13:54), Brooke Kirchhofer (29th - 14:00) and Erika Miller (33rd - 14:20).

8th grade Chiefs win

The East Jay eighth grade volleyball team picked up the lone victory for the Chiefs Thursday, rolling over visiting Muncie Wilson 25-11, 25-15. The EJMS seventh graders fell 25-24, 25-18, and the sixth grade team lost 25-18, 15-25, 15-6.

Mikayla Wellman had 17 points and three digs for the eighth grade team (11-5), and Lexie Gierhart added 12 points and six assists. Rachelle Jackson scored 12 points.

Rachael Ferguson paced the seventh grade Chiefs (12-3) with four kills, two aces and two digs. Katlin Petro matched Ferguson's four kills, Bailey Weatherhead had three assists and Ali Inman added three digs.

Breanne McIntire finished with 12 points and seven kills for the EJMS sixth graders (11-3). Jessica Kerrigan had 15 points, Catherine Dunn totaled six digs and three kills and Malarie Houck had eight assists.[[In-content Ad]]
