East Jay teams sweep the Starfires

East Jay Middle Schools basketball teams enjoyed their evening Thursday against the Starfires.
The boys teams, playing at home, defeated South Adams 50-28 in the eighth grade game and 30-23 in seventh grade action. The girls, on the road in Berne, took the eighth grade contest 38-23 and the seventh grade game 22-10.
Catherine Dunn and Breanne McIntire each scored 13 points to lead the eighth grade girls, who built a double-digit halftime lead. Malarie Houck added eight points.
Bowen Runyon also scored 13 points in leading the seventh grade boys (3-10). Isaac Alfont finished with 11 points.
The EJMS eighth grade boys got 12 points from Nick Clemens as they improved to 9-4. Zach Pryor followed with seven points.
And Abby Wendel powered the seventh grade girls, who shut out South Adams in the first quarter, with 10 points. Gabby Hart finished with four.

Fort 7th rallies
MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery seventh grade boys basketball team overcame a mammoth deficit Thursday to defeat the Minster Wildcats 50-38. The eighth grade team lost 40-26.
Jackson Hobbs finished with 21 points and nine rebounds for the FRMS seventh graders (7-1), who trailed by 17 at the end of the first quarter. J.J. Overton added 12 points and seven rebounds.

Mitch Stammen finished with 11 points as the eighth grade squad slipped to 1-7. Xavier Shauver had six points.

Lennartz leads FR
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery eighth grade girls basketball team came on strong in the second half Thursday for a 34-30 win over Marion Local. The seventh graders fell 37-27.
Tori Lennartz put in 12 points for the Indian eighth graders (6-5), as they erased a five-point halftime deficit. Kara Jutte joined her in double figures with 10 points.
Kendra Siefring totaled 10 points for the seventh graders (4-7). Caitlyn Huelskamp added four points.

EJ stays perfect
The East Jay sixth grade girls basketball team ran its record to 3-0 Wednesday with a 23-11 victory over visiting Muncie Wilson.
Erika Kunkler and Taylor Homan each scored six points for the Chiefs, who held Wilson scoreless in the first and third quarters. Deanna Chenoweth added five points.[[In-content Ad]]
