East Jay topples Raiders (12/19/03)

The East Jay eighth grade girls basketball team topped Southern Wells 38-17 Thursday, and the seventh grade team won 31-24. The eighth grade Chiefs dominated the entire game, holding a 15-point lead at halftime on the way to the victory.

Abby Loy paced the eighth grade team with 18 points and four rebounds as it stayed undefeated at 5-0. Katie Runyon had six points, Shelby Rines scored five points and Casandra Huelskamp grabbed five boards.

Kaelee Keller scored 16 points to lead the seventh graders (3-2), who pulled away with a 12-0 third period. Meagan Logue and Brittany Mann each scored four points.

WJ splits vs. Driver

A big second period allowed the West Jay eighth grade girls basketball team to remain undefeated on the year with a 40-31 win over Winchester Driver. The seventh grade team struggled offensively throughout the contest in a 37-6 defeat.

Trish Champ paced the eighth grade Eagles (6-0) with 13 points as they outscored Driver 11-1 in the second period to pull ahead for good. Brittany O’Dell and Miranda Peterson each scored eight points.

The seventh grade team’s best quarter was its 3-point fourth. Alex Bunch paced the team with three points, Kelci Reed had two and Chelsea Grady added one.

EJ pounds Raiders

Billy Wellman and Lance Franklin led the East Jay seventh grade boys basketball team as it stayed unbeaten with a 48-38 win over Southern Wells Thursday. Twelve different players scored for the East Jay seventh graders as they beat Southern Wells 66-27.

Wellman and Franklin each scored 16 points for the seventh grade Chiefs. They are now 6-0 on the year.

Michael Jobe led the flood of Chief scorers with 10 points for the eighth grade team (4-2). Austin May finished with eight points.

Eagle 8th victorious

West Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team defeated Montpelier 51-36 Thursday. The seventh grade team dropped to a 33-19 defeat.

The eighth grade team outscored Montpelier 15-6 in the second period to take control for good. The seventh graders trailed by five after one quarter and 10 at halftime on the way to the defeat.

Dustin Fox paced the eighth grade Eagles (6-4) with 10 points. Brandon Buckland had eight points, and Zack Hummer finished with seven.

Blake Price had seven points, and Bob Springer added six for the seventh grade team (4-6).[[In-content Ad]]
