East Jay tops Cowan, still perfect (05/22/04)

The East Jay baseball team stayed perfect with a 10-0 shutout of Cowan Thursday. East Jay also defeat Yorktown 12-5 and Muncie Central 13-0 Saturday, and is now 7-0 on the season.

Four different pitchers combined to shut down Cowan, with Justin Mann earning the win as he started and struck out five batters in two innings. Joshua Ludy struck out five in two innings, Michael Jobe K’d six in two innings and Billy Wellman struck out three in one inning.

Jobe paced the offense with a triple and a single. Kyle Wellman and Adam Garringer each had two hits, and Billy Wellman added a triple.

Ludy was the winning pitcher in the victory over Yorktown, and Phillip Powell picked up the win against Muncie Central.

East Jay will play Muncie Central Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Jay hoops camp

Jay County High School will hold its boys basketball camp for third through eighth graders June 8 through 11.

Third and fourth graders will camp from 10 to 11:30 a.m., with fifth and sixth graders from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and seventh and eighth graders from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The camp will be run by JCHS boys basketball coach Craig Teagle and his staff and players.

The cost of the camp is $25, which includes a T-shirt. Registration forms are available at all Jay County schools and Kessler’s Sporting Goods in Portland.

Baseball camp

Jay County High School will hold its baseball camp for first through sixth graders June 14 through 17.

There will be three sessions, with first and second graders from 8:30 to 10 a.m., third and fourth graders from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and fifth through sixth graders from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The camp will be run by JCHS baseball coach Lea Selvey and his staff and players.

The cost of the camp is $25, which includes a T-shirt, and registration forms are available at all Jay County schools. The deadline to register is Monday, June 7.

Golf outing

State of the Heart Home, Health & Hospice will host its annual golf outing Friday, June 4.

The event will be at the Elks in Mercer County, with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. It will be limited to 32 teams.
