East Jay wins two over Indian teams (04/18/06)

FORT RECOVERY — The East Jay and Fort Recovery girls could not have been much closer Monday night.
The junior high track meet, which also included the Union City Indians, came down to the wire with the Chief girls edging the host Indians 63.5-59.5. Union City was a distant third with 22 points.
East Jay also won the boys competition with 60 points. Union City was second with 47, and Fort Recovery scored 43.
Tevan Nichols and Jordan McMillan each won a pair of events to lead the boys and girls victories respectively.
Nichols was first in the two longest races of the night, pounding the field in both. He won the 800 run by nearly 10 seconds in 2-minutes, 35.64 seconds, and was first by nearly 23 seconds in the 1,600 run at 5:35.10.
McMillan edged Marissa Brunswick for one of her victories, winning the 200 dash in 29.3 seconds. She also tied teammate Kelsey Wood for first in the high jump at four feet, 61/4 inches.
Fort Recovery also had a couple two-event winners in the defeats.
Emily May controlled both of her events for the Tribe girls, finishing first in the 400 dash in 1:09.93 and the long jump at 12 feet, five inches. Shane Stein eked out a win over East Jay’s Patrick Johnson by just four hundredths of a second in the 400 dash with a time of 1:02.99, and was first in the high jump as he cleared the bar at five feet, four inches.
Ranae Ray finished first for the East Jay girls in the 100 dash in 18.4. Katie Butcher won the 800 run in 2:51.6, and Katie Simmons took the 1,600 run with a time of 6:30.4.
Jacob Chenoweth had the only other win for the East Jay boys team, reaching the finish line in 30.9 in the 200 hurdles.
Adding victories for the Fort Recovery girls were Kelsey Faller in the 100 dash (13.59) and Holly Brunswick in the 200 hurdles (33.7). Adam Rohrer took first in the shot put (34 feet, three inches) for the Tribe boys, and Tyler May won the pole vault (six feet).[[In-content Ad]]
