East tops West to remain perfect (06/08/04)

East Jay faced one of its toughest challenges of the season against the West Jay baseball team Monday, but came away with an 11-5 win.

The victory kept East Jay perfect at 12-0. It also had a pair of wins over Winchester Saturday, 17-1 and 22-8.

Billy Wellman powered the East Jay offense against West Jay with a home run, a double and a single. Justin Mann also had three hits, including a triple.

Dalton McGill added a double and a single.

Justin Mann got the win as he allowed five runs on four hits in five innings. He struck out six batters.

Michael Jobe struck out six batters in relief.

Jobe also picked up the game-one win against Winchester. He struck out eight batters in three scoreless and hitless innings.

Joshua Ludy earned the game-two win as he gave up four runs on five hits in three innings. He struck out six.

Jobe finished game one with a home run, a triple and a single. Mann hit an inside-the-park home run and a single.

Jobe rounded the bases for an inside-the-park home run in the second game as well. Wellman added three hits, including a pair of triples.

Girls hoops camp

Jay County High School will hold its girls basketball camp for third through eighth graders next week.

The session for students who were in third through fifth grade this year will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m., and the session for sixth through eighth graders will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The camp will be run by JCHS girls basketball coach Kirk Comer and his staff and players.

The cost of the camp is $25, which includes a T-shirt. Registration forms are available at all Jay County schools and Kessler's Sport Shop in Portland. Forms should be returned to the school office or dropped off at Kessler's.
