EJ girls defeat St. Joe (01/14/2009)

DECATUR - The East Jay Middle School girls basketball teams combined Tuesday to hand St. Joe a 36-30 defeat. On Monday, the Chief seventh graders clobbered Union City Westside 39-6 while the eighth grade team posted a 29-17 victory.

EJMS trailed by five after three quarters of Tuesday's combined seventh and eighth grade game. But they came up big with a 15-4 advantage in the fourth quarter to earn the victory.

Hannah Ainsworth racked up 12 points for the Chiefs. Emily Devoe and Rachelle Jackson finished with seven apiece.

Ainsworth also led the EJMS eighth graders in Monday's victory, in which they outscored Westside 12-2 in the second quarter. She totaled 12 points, and Devoe and Kaitlin Petro each had six.

Petro racked up 19 points for the Chief seventh graders, who shut out Union City in the first half. Abigail Johnson added five points.

Both East Jay teams are undefeated on the season at 6-0.

Mattraw leads FR

FORT RECOVERY - Bobby Mattraw scored more than three teams as many points as the opposition as the Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team destroyed Arcanum by a 57-5 score Tuesday. The FRMS eighth grade team lost 61-49.

Mattraw racked up 18 points for the Indians (4-2), who held Arcanum scoreless in the second half. Kent Retz had seven points, and Stew Alig scored six.

Chad Schroer totaled 21 points in the loss for the eighth grade team (2-4). Trent Kaiser added 10 points.

West Jay rolls

DUNKIRK - The West Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team improved to 6-2 Thursday with a 36-25 victory over Gas City R.J. Baskett.

Jason Farmer scored 10 points to lead the Eagles, and Tyler Back finished with seven points and six rebounds. Blake Crouch also scored seven points, and Dylan Harris grabbed nine boards.

Tribe 8th wins

COLDWATER, Ohio - Fort Recovery Middle School's eighth grade girls basketball team fought off the Coldwater Cavaliers for a 28-24 victory Tuesday. The seventh grade Indians lost 25-16.

Janelle Schwieterman scored seven points as the eighth graders improved to 4-1. Amy Link and Melissa Lochtefeld each added six points.

Nikki Nietfeld totaled five points for the Tribe seventh graders, who slipped to 2-3. Lexi Schmitz scored four points.

Chiefs fall to Delta

The East Jay Middle School sixth grade boys basketball team dropped to 0-2 Tuesday with a 31-15 loss to visiting Delta.

Zach Pryor and Jalen Ryder each had six points in the defeat.

EJMS also lost the B team game 28-25 with Cole Guntle finishing with nine points.[[In-content Ad]]
