EJ teams top WJ to improve to 4-0 (12/22/07)
DUNKIRK - East Jay Middle School's girls basketball team's each stayed perfect Thursday, holding their West Jay Eagle counterparts to single digits.
The Chief eighth graders turned in an impressive 35-1 victory over WJMS while the seventh grade team won 36-6.
Kassi Hemmelgarn and Mariah Hornaday reached double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively for the East Jay eighth grade team (4-0), which held the Eagles without a field goal and gave up the only free throw in the second quarter. Danielle Wellman added seven points.
The EJMS seventh grade team (4-0) went up 11-2 after the first quarter and then shut out the Eagles 20-0 over the course of the second and third. Emily Devoe totaled eight points, Hannah Ainsworth scored seven and Rachelle Jackson and Lexie Gierhart each added six.
Shelby Shirk had four points for the West Jay seventh graders, and Sarah Lennertz added two. Megan Sawyer scored the only points for the eighth grade squad.[[In-content Ad]]
