EJ, WJ capture tourney
The East Jay and West Jay middle school boys basketball teams each brough home titles Saturday.
West Jay Middle School's seventh graders edged their EJMS counterparts in the championship game of the East Jay Invitational 30-26. The Chief eighth graders beat St. Joe 35-26 in the championship game.
In the seventh grade championship game, Nate Brackman led West Jay with 15 points. Case Retter added six points in the win over the Chiefs.
Kyle Dirkssen led East Jay with 11 points.
West Jay reached the championship with a 32-28 win over Bellmont in the opening round, led by 13 points and eight rebounds from Brackman. James Williams added 11 points.
Zane Shreve led the East Jay eighth graders to their championship with 14 points. Trey Teagle added 10 points.
Shreve also led the way in the Chiefs' 30-22 opening-round win over Bellmont. Jacob Schlosser and Teagle each had seven points.
The EJMS seventh graders won their first game 34-31 over St. Joe before falling to West Jay in the championship. Kyle Dirksen led the victory with 19 points.[[In-content Ad]]
