GENEVA - Six Chiefs scored in double figures Thursday as both East Jay Middle School boys basketball teams rolled over the host South Adams Starfires.
The seventh grade Chiefs had a 20-point lead at the close of the first quarter, staying perfect with a 57-17 victory. The eighth graders also dominated, 52-31.
Kegan Comer put 16 points for the EJMS seventh graders (14-0), who led 22-2 after the first quarter and scored at least 10 points in every period. Brock McFarland added 12 points, and Cade Price scored 10.
Dillon Ainsworth led all the Chiefs with 18 points for the eighth grade squad (11-3), which racked up 21 points third-quarter. Andy Haffner added 15 points, and Jordan McBride scored 11.
Shea Pyle led the South Adams seventh graders with five points, and Chase Mosser scored four.
Eagles earn third win
WARREN - West Jay Middle School's seventh grade girls basketball team picked up its third win of the season Thursday, 20-15 over Salamonie.
The Eagles took control with a 4-0 first quarter and never faltered. They pushed their lead to 10 heading into the final period, and held on despite scoring just two fourth-quarter points.
Taylor Franklin powered the victory with 10 points. Sara Lennartz went 4-for-4 from the line to follow with four points, and Shelby Shirk added three.
Marion defeats FR
MARIA STEIN, Ohio - The Fort Recovery Middle School boys basketball teams dropped both games Thursday with the seventh graders falling 51-46 to the host Marion Local Flyers and the eighth grade squad losing 60-23.
The seventh graders fell behind 25-18 at the half after leading by two in the opening quarter and couldn't come all the way back. Keith Fortkamp scored 13 points for the Indians, and Trent Kaiser followed with 10.
Fort Recovery's eighth graders trailed 23-2 after the opening period as they fell to 1-9. Jared Kahlig scored nine points, and Jason Pottkotter added six.
EJMS slams Jets
Cody Bellis and Chandler Stout got off the mat in a hurry Thursday, leading the East Jay Middle School wrestling team to a 66-24 victory over the Adams Central Jets.
Bellis (135) needed just 16 seconds as he scored the fastest of the Chiefs' nine pins. Chandler Stout (115) won his match in 19 seconds.
Conner Ray (75), Cory Bellis (90), Zack Metcalf (105), Austin Bentz (110), Nick Leonhard (120), Nathan Frisch (152) and Matt Taylor (165) all had pins as well.
East Jay won the junior varsity match 66-20 with Randy Hutzler (110) and Wil Skiver (125) each winning by pin in 26 seconds.
Chiefs beat Baskett
The East Jay Middle School sixth grade girls basketball team defeated R.J. Baskett (Gas City) 21-9 Thursday.
Alex Loy and Katie Aker each scored six points as the Chiefs improved to 4-0 on the year. Mikayla Gross had six rebounds and two assists.
EJMS also took the B team game 13-2. Justine Wallischeck scored four points, and Cheyanne Dull and Mackenzie Overholser each grabbed five rebounds.
