DUNKIRK — East Jay came away victorious in all three races Monday as its cross country teams battled South Adams and host West Jay.
The Chiefs dominated the sixth and seventh grade boys race, taking each of the top six positions for 15 points. West Jay had 68 points and South Adams did not field a team.
East Jay’s eighth grade squad edged South Adams 28-31 while West Jay did not have enough runners for a team score. The East Jay girls posted a score of 27, followed by South Adams with 43 and West Jay with 94.
Bradley Leuthold led the dominant effort for the sixth and seventh grade boys, finishing first in 13-minutes, two seconds. Garrett Krieg was second, nine seconds behind Leuthold.
Seth Ainsworth was third in 13:34, Ed Muhlenkamp placed fourth in 13:41 and Jacob Heitkamp rounded out the team score in fifth in 13:44. Evan Ryder was sixth for the Chiefs in 13:52.
Chance Fuller was the top runner for West Jay, finishing seventh with a time of 14:02. Welsey Price joined him in the top 10, placing ninth in 14:39.
They were joined by Trey Aucker (15th - 15:56), Brandon Dishman (18th - 17:47) and Zach Johnson (19th - 18:37).
Tevan Nichols and Patrick Johnson again paced East Jay’s eighth grade boys, this time with Nichols taking the top spot. He outdistanced Johnson by four seconds with a time of 11:36 as the pair went one-two.
Brad Horn finished sixth in 12:26, Ben Brandt was ninth in 13:31 and Ben Walter took 10th in 13:33.
Jeremiah Cotherman, the lone West Jay runner, placed seventh with a time of 12:57. South Adams was led by Gabe Sprunger in third place in 12:07.
South Adams’ Hannah Moore won the girls race in 13:06, but Leah Wellman, Kristin Selvey and Katie Simmons finished second, third and fourth for the second straight meet.
East Jay’s Wellman took the runner-up spot in 13:09, Selvey of West Jay was third in 13:31 and Simmons of East Jay placed fourth in 13:40. They finished in the same positions at Friday’s Selma Invitational.
Katie Butcher, Lindsay Moser and Deidre Chenoweth finished in a pack again to complete the East Jay victory. Butcher crossed the line in 14:09 for sixth place, and Moser and Chenoweth each finished in 14:10 for seventh and eighth respectively.
Macy Gerber was second for West Jay and 16th overall in 14:52. Completing the West Jay team score were Annaliese Jetmore (24th - 15:24), Elizabeth Lennartz (25th - 15:36) and Carly Weaver (26th - 15:39).[[In-content Ad]]
