EJMS defeats Bears (09/27/07)

PARKER CITY - The Monroe Central Golden Bears couldn't stop either East Jay Middle School volleyball team Wednesday night as they both improved to 7-3. The seventh graders blasted Monroe Central 25-17, 25-8, and the eighth grade team rallied from a game-one defeat for a 21-25, 25-17, 15-13 triumph.

Hannah Ainsworth turned in another big match for the seventh grade Chiefs, scoring seven of her 15 points on aces. She also had 11 assists.

Emily Devoe finished with three points, three kills and two digs. Avery Loyd totaled four kills, and Paige Lennartz finished with three digs.

Mariah Hornaday's 12 points and six kills powered the eighth grade team. Maria Murphy had team bests of nine kills and two blocks.

Kassi Hemmelgarn put up 16 assists, Danielle Wellman had 10 points and Jennifer Dirksen finished with seven digs.

Gridders top Dennis

Matt Taylor scored two touchdowns in leading the East Jay Middle School eighth grade football team to an 18-6 victory over Richmond Dennis.

Taylor opened the scoring with a 4-yard run for the Chiefs late in the first quarter to cap a long drive. After Richmond pulled within two points, 8-6, with its lone touchdown of the game on the next-to-last play of the first half, he turned in a 52-yard touchdown run with 2:24 left in the third quarter.

Julian Myers and Spencer Hodge tacked on 2-point conversions after the Taylor runs, and East Jay recorded a safety in the fourth quarter.[[In-content Ad]]
