EJMS girls sweep vs. HC (09/13/07)

EJMS cross country

For the Chief girls, it must have seemed like no one else was on the course. That's because no one else was within sight.

East Jay Middle School's girls cross country team swept the top six spots Wednesday and took eight of the top 10 in crushing Hartford City 15-49. The boys teams also won, with the eighth graders taking a 21-40 victory and the sixth and seventh graders a 24-37 triumph.

Katie Simmons led the day of domination for the EJMS girls team, winning in 12-minutes 16 seconds. She was just two seconds ahead of runner-up Amber Huelskamp.

Tiffany Huelskamp led the next group of Chief runners in third at 13:32, LeAnn Horn was fourth at 13:37 and Abigail Johnson finished the team score in fifth at 13:47. Also in the top 10 for East Jay were Laura Bowen (sixth - 13:55), Julie Valentine (eighth - 14:23) and Alex Loy (ninth - 14:25).

Austin Bentz and Bradley Leuthold gave the Chiefs a one-two finish in the eighth grade boys race. Bentz was a solid first in 11:41, and Leuthold took second in 12:04.

Eddie Muhlenkamp was fifth in 12:41, Aaron Loy placed sixth at 12:50 and Jordan McBride finished seventh in a time of 12:56.

The top finish for the East Jay sixth and seventh grade boys came from Zach Fullenkamp, who was the runner-up in 13:04. Michael Bruggeman was fourth in 13:19 followed immediately by Chaz Carroll (fifth - 13:35), Alex Dunn (sixth - 13:38) and Austin Muhlenkamp (seventh - 13:41).[[In-content Ad]]
