BERNE - The South Adams High School volleyball team's losing streak went to four matches Thursday as it lost 25-20, 25-18, 25-23 loss to the visiting Winchester Golden Falcons.

The Starfires (1-16) have lost in three games to Leo, Heritage, Garrett and Winchester since picking up their first win Sept. 11 over Bluffton.

Jacie Yoder finished with 15 assists and 12 digs against the Golden Falcons. Kassy Potts had 15 digs.

South Adams also lost the junior varsity match, 25-8, 25-20.

EJMS defeats two

RICHMOND - East Jay Middle School's girls cross country team swept the top seven spots Thursday at Earlham College.

The Chiefs scored the minimum of 15 points while host Richmond Dennis did not have enough runners for a team score. The EJMS boys swept the top four spots in defeating Richmond 17-53.

Amber Huelskamp powered the East Jay girls on the short course - it was about 2.4 kilometers compared to the normal 3 - as she won by 23 seconds in 11-minutes, 5 seconds. Abigail Johnson was the runner-up followed by Julie Valentine (11:33), Sammi Compton (11:36), Alex Loy (11:38), Patricia Hein (11:58) and Ayami Kogeyama (12:53).

Dylan Cope set the pace for the Chiefs in the boys race with a win in 9:20 with Zane Shreve second in 9:35. Kyle Scott was third with a time of 9:51, Jalen Ryder finished fourth in 9:58 and Austin Muhlenkamp was seventh at 10:23.

Tribe 7th victorious

NEW BREMEN, Ohio - Ben Dilworth lifted the Fort Recovery Middle School seventh grade football team to an 8-0 victory Thursday over the New Bremen Cardinals. The Indian eighth graders fell just short in a 16-14 defeat.

Dilworth scored the lone touchdown of the seventh grade game on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter. Kyle Timmerman added the two-point conversion.

Fort Recovery had a chance to tie the score in the eighth grade game, but missed on the two-point conversion try following a 6-yard TD run by Mitch Vagedes in the fourth quarter. Mason Evers tossed a 6-yard TD pass to Austin Brinkerhoff in the second quarter, and Vagedes ran for the two-point conversion.

Chiefs move to 7-1

RICHMOND - With a 25-23, 25-15 win Thursday over Richmond Dennis the East Jay Middle School seventh grade volleyball team improved its record to 7-1. The eighth grade team slipped to 4-4 with a 24-25, 25-13, 15-10 defeat.

Katlin Petro led the EJMS seventh graders with five kills and three aces. Abby Dunlavy also had three aces, and Ali Inman added a pair of assists.

Emily Devoe did it all for the eighth grade Chiefs with nine points, five digs, four kills and three blocks. Lexie Gierhart had 10 points, Hannah Ainsworth totaled seven assists and Abbey Vance finished with five digs.[[In-content Ad]]
