Fennig leads Patriots again

MARION — The Jay County High School girls golfers continued to show improvement Monday despite finishing 12th at the Marion Invitational.
The Patriots posted a 451, four strokes better than at Thursday’s Muncie Central Invitational, at Marion Elks Country Club. The score was 24 strokes better than their season opener at Hickory Hills Golf Club.
Yorktown, which is ranked 15th in the state, won the event with a 326. The host Giants finished second.
Alysia Fennig paced Jay County for the second consecutive match, recording five bogies on the way to a 110. Brittany Stevens and Whitney Gray each shot 112, finishing two pars and one par respectively.
Katlin Petro, seeing her first action of the season, rounded out the team score with a 117. Cortney Myers finished at 128.
The Patriots are in action today at the Hagerstown Invitational and will play their first home match of the season at Portland Golf Club Monday against Anderson.
Stars place third
GENEVA — Kristen Lehman turned in the only double-digit round for the South Adams girls golf team Monday as it finished third as hosts of the South Adams Invitational.
The Starfires posted a 436 to finish behind No. 18 Fairfield (332) and Bellmont (415) at the seven-team event.
Lehman, who finished sixth individually, had three pars and four bogeys on the front nine. She added five bogeys on the back for a 93.
Abbie Fisher had three consecutive pars on the third through fifth holes and notched two pars on the back nine on the way to a 101. Sam Schwartz shot 118, and Alleigh Wingler added a 124.[[In-content Ad]]
