FORT RECOVERY — The Indians struggled to put the ball in the basket. But their work on rebounding and defense was enough to carry them to the win.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team dominated the glass 43-33 and held the New Bremen Cardinals to 20 percent shooting in the second half as it picked up a 48-34 victory.
Kelsey Fiely totaled 14 points and three assists to pace the Indians, who improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference. Tori Lennartz added 10 points and led the rebounding effort with 14. Chelsea Pottkotter grabbed 12 rebounds.
Kyla Otting scored 11 points for New Bremen (6-6, 1-2 MAC). Hannah Holder had nine points and 10 rebounds.
Fort Recovery dropped the junior varsity game 39-32. Julie Wendel and Kasey Vogel scored six points apiece.

SA swimmers win
BLUFFTON — David Steffen’s pair of wins Thursday powered the South Adams boys swim team to a 110-66 victory over the Bluffton Tigers. The Starfire girls team won, 98-85.
Steffen dominated the 100-meter butterfly, winning by seven seconds in 1 minute, 16.17 seconds. He was also first in the 50 freestyle in 28.4.
Cady Farlow led an SAHS sweep of the 200 individual medley for the girls, finishing in front of Michaela Rupp and Victoria Richardson in 2:44.89. She added a victory in the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.56.
Kara DeLong was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:15.66 and the 100 freestyle in 1:07.46, and Sidney Sprunger posted winning times of 2:42.94 in the 2100 freestyle and 5:47.72 in the 400 freestyle.
Adding wins were Daniel Burson, Chris Inniger, Shad Swygart and Mitchell Kaverman for the boys team, and Sylvia Marbach and Maddie Kloepper for the girls.

Fort tops Cardinals
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team defeated the New Bremen Cardinals 36-21 Thursday. The seventh graders won 34-33.
Micaiah Cox matched New Bremen single-handedly as he scored 21 points for the FRMS eighth graders (5-2). Kyle Knapke added six points, and Jason Roessner scored four.
Cade Wendel tallied 12 points for the Indian seventh grade team. Ryan Braun tallied six points.

Indians defeat MV
UNION CITY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s seventh grade girls basketball team stayed perfect Thursday with a 45-10 destruction of the host Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks. The eighth grade team added a 33-17 victory.
Grace Thien racked up 15 points as the FRMS seventh graders improved to 7-0. Carley Stone joined her in double figures with 12 points.
Whitney Will totaled 14 points to lead the Indian eighth graders, who improved to 5-2. Jocie Kaiser added 12 points.[[In-content Ad]]
