Five from JC earn All-OAC
JCHS softball/baseball
Five Jay County High School players recently earned all-conference honors.
Patriot softball players Pazia Speed and Danielle Wellman and baseball players Billy Wellman, Trey Dunn and Willie Mayfield were all voted to the All-Olympic Athletic Conference teams. Tiffany Davis, Kendra Younger and Phil Powell earned honorable mention.
Speed and Danielle Wellman, a junior and freshman respectively, each hit .500 for the JCHS softball team, which turned in its third straight winning season and reached the sectional championship game for the second consecutive year.
Speed finished with 16 RBIs as the Patriots played just 17 games this year. Wellman had a hit in every game, finished with 12 doubles and struck out just once all season.
Billy Wellman led JCHS (12-11) in almost every offensive category, finishing with 34 RBIs, 32 hits, nine home runs, six doubles and a .464 batting average. He also won four games with a 2.33 ERA while striking out 53 batters in 36 innings.
Dunn led the Patriots with 26 runs to go along with 26 hits and a .333 average. He won three games with a 4.28 ERA and 23 strikouts in 36 innings.
Mayfield hit .323 and had a team-best .976 fielding percentage.
Davis drove in a team-high 20 runs while hitting .375, and Younger had a .333 batting average. Powell hit. 356 with 26 hits and 21 RBIs.[[In-content Ad]]
