Sara Heitkamp gave Capital University an early Christmas present.
Staring down her team’s second straight defeat, the Fort Recovery graduate led her Crusaders to a comeback victory. They overcame a 13-point deficit with less than 10 minutes to play to top No. 21 Washington & Jefferson 58-53 Monday.
Heitkamp powered fifth-ranked Capital (9-1) with 25 points. She shot 9-of-17 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
She also grabbed 11 rebounds, and had five steals and four assists.
The comeback victory followed the Crusaders’ first loss of the season Dec. 17 by a 59-54 score to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin Wallace. Heitkamp had 21 points, six steals, four rebounds and three assists in the defeat.
She ranks first in the OAC in steals (4.33 per game), and third in scoring (16.1) and assists (3.89).

The Fort Recovery graduate helped the Findlay University men’s basketball team to two more wins this week as it improved to 8-2 on the season.
Niekamp grabbed four rebounds, score three points and dished out two assists in the 25th-ranked Oilers’ 73-52 victory over Rio Grande Tuesday. He had one rebound in their 62-55 win against Michigan Tech Dec. 17.[[In-content Ad]]
