Fort 7th, 8th teams cruise (01/19/05)

Fort Recovery Roundup

The night couldn’t have gotten much better for the Fort Recovery junior high basketball teams. The eighth grade girls squad stayed undefeated, and all four Indian teams came away with victories Tuesday.

The Indian eighth grade girls crushed the Marion Local Flyers 39-14 to improve to 10-0 on the year. The seventh grade team rolled to a 34-16 triumph.

In boys action the Fort Recovery eighth grade team took a 53-22 win over the Ansonia Tigers while the seven graders cruised to a 31-11 victory.

The eighth grade girls team grabbed a seven-point lead in the first half and dominated the second. It outscored the Flyers 22-4 after the break, allowing just two points in each of the final two quarters.

Anne Koesters and Kinsey Wenning shared the team high of seven points. Betsy Tobe and Lauren Day each added six.

Fort Recovery’s seventh graders were also up seven at the half before clamping down on defense in the second. They allowed just six points in the second half as they improved to 8-2.

Nicole Pottkotter paced the Tribe with 12 points. Emily May added seven points and seven rebounds, and Josie Guggenbiller also had seven points.

Both teams scored 13 points in the first quarter of the eighth grade boys game, but the Indians stifled Ansonia from that point on. They allowed just two points each in the second and third quarters and five in the fourth for the 31-point win.

Toby Metzger led Fort Recovery (5-5) with 20 points. Matt Braun scored seven, and Jordan Hess added six.

The Tigers never had any offensive luck in the seventh grade game as they were held scoreless in the first quarter and had just one point at the intermission.

Josh Wendel paced the Indians with seven points, and Cody Fiely scored five. Greg Kahlig and Tony Brockman notched four points apiece.
