DELPHOS, Ohio — The Indian girls had a late night Tuesday. But they made it count.

It took Fort Recovery’s seventh grade girls basketball team four overtimes to get the job done, but it finally came away with a 45-43 victory over the host St. Johns Blue Jays. The eighth grade team lost 43-27.

The seventh grade Indians improved to 8-3 after the game was tied at 28 at the end of regulation. The scoring dwindled as the overtimes kept coming, with each team scoring six points in the first and second extra sessions and three in the third before Fort Recovery posted the only two points in the fourth overtime to grab the victory.

Kendra Brunswick paced the Tribe with 14 points, and Olivia Thien joined her in double figures with 12. Nichole Kaiser added eight points.

Fort Recovery’s eighth grade girls dropped to 7-4 with their loss. Emily May and Chelsey Leuthold each had six points, and Nicole Pottkotter scored five.

Starfires now 2-0

HARTFORD CITY — The South Adams Middle School wrestling team won each of the opening six matches Tuesday on the way to a 52-29 victory over Hartford City.

Gabe Sprunger (80) opened with a technical fall victory, and Jordan Landers (85) and Cajon Dailey (100) followed with back-to-back pins.

Stuart Poulson (105) won by a major decision, and Dustin Hunt (110) and T.J. Burnfield (115) added pins as the Starfires (2-0) built a huge lead.

Also coming up with a pin was Adam Hofstetter (130). Other victories came from Justin Wygant (135), Cody Conner (140), Zach Hough (165) and Jimmy West (HWT).

JC freshmen lose 3rd

NEW CASTLE — Jay County’s freshman boys basketball team lost for just the third time this season Tuesday, 38-30 to the New Castle Trojans.

The Patriots (12-3) fell behind 11-6 in the opening quarter and never recovered. New Castle was up by eight after the first half, and pushed ahead 27-18 after three quarters.

Dexter Shreve paced Jay County with 12 points. Cole Ingram had nine points, and Phil Powell scored five.

Westside smashes Eagles

DUNKIRK — The West Jay Middle School wrestling team had a rough night Tuesday in a 68-18 loss to Union City Westside. Dustin Easton (120) scored the only Eagle victory in a contested match, picking up a pin in 2-minutes, 12 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
