VAN WERT, Ohio - Another first-inning lead keyed another big win Tuesday for the Fort Recovery baseball team.
The Indians, who jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Celina in their season-opener Monday, scored twice in the top of the first inning Tuesday on the way to a 6-0 victory over the host Lincolnview Lancers.
Four players had two hits apiece as Fort Recovery (2-0) added a run in the second inning and three more in the fourth. Leading the group was sophomore Frank Thien, who went 2-for-3 with a walk, three RBIs and a run.
Senior Tony Diller had two hits, including a triple, and two runs, and junior Bobby Rammel added a double, a single and two runs.
Clint Tobe, a junior who also had two hits, tossed five scoreless innings for the win. He allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out seven batters.
Tribe girls 2nd
ANNA, Ohio - Wins were few and far between for Fort Recovery's junior high track teams Tuesday.
The girls team picked up the only two Indian wins of the night and earned enough second and third places to take second overall with 56 points at the Anna four-way. The host Rockets won with 91, Russia (48) was third and Riverside (30) finished fourth.
Fort Recovery's boys team placed third behind Anna and Russia.
The Tribe girls earned nearly a quarter of their points in one event, the shot put. Kylie Kahlig won at 28 feet, 4 inches, and teammates Barbie Link and De Hemmelgarn were second and third respectively.
Holly Brunswick turned in the only other victory for the Indians, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 18.32 seconds.
Turning in second-place efforts for the boys were Michael Cotterman (110 hurdles), Adam Rohrer (shot put) and Aaron Vagedes (long jump).[[In-content Ad]]
