Fort boys golf falls to Anna

CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys golf team lost to the Anna Rockets 173-179 Tuesday at Mercer County Elks Country Club.
Derek Backs and Chase Bruns posted season-bests of 42 and 45 respectively, and Elijah Kahlig and Kent Retz had identical scores of 46 to round out the Tribe’s top four.
Backs and Kahlig each converted a birdie on the par-5 first hole, and then Backs shot even on the second, fourth, fifth and seventh holes as all four Indians’ golfers shot par or better on at least two holes.
Anna’s Zach Watren led all golfers with a 40.
FR girls third, boys fourth
ROCKFORD, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s cross country teams each had two top-10 finishes as the girls finished third and the boys fourth on Tuesday at the Mercer County Invitational.
Elle Sutter finished third for the girls team with a time of 21:18 and Caitlyn Huelskamp ninth (23:13) in the six-team meet.
Grace Gehle finished 12th, Katie Braun 33rd, and Sydney Alig finished in 40th to begin a contingent of Tribe runners who finished 40-45th place.
Derek Sutter led the boys team with a sixth-place finish in 18 minutes, 20 seconds, and his brother Travis Sutter finished 30 seconds behind him in ninth.
Joey Gonzalez and Issac Siegrist finished back-to-back in 17th and 18th, and Sam Huelskamp rounded out the top five for the Tribe, finishing in 44th[[In-content Ad]]
