Fort downs the Bulldogs (10/15/03)

The Fort Recovery volleyball team bounced back from last week’s disappointing loss to the New Bremen Cardinals Tuesday with a 15-3, 15-8 trouncing of the Elida Bulldogs.

The Indians (14-7), 14th in this week’s state poll voting, rolled to the victory led by senior Joscie Kaup. She paced the team with 13 assists, and shared team highs of six kills and five points.

Three of her five points came on aces.

Briget Metzger matched Kaup with six kills, and added seven blocks. Jennalee Post, Megan Wenning and Rachel Brackman each scored five points.

Jenn Stahl finished with eight blocks, and Brackman had eight digs.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team (16-4) also topped Elida, earning a 15-3, 15-9 victory.

Ciera Rammel had a team-best eight points and six kills, and put up five assists. Vicki Roessner matched Rammel with five assists, and had four digs.

Kelly Link notched four kills and five blocks, and Jennifer Link had five digs.

The Tribe will finish the regular season at Coldwater (12-8) Thursday at 6 p.m. before taking on New Knoxville (4-16) in first-round sectional action Saturday at New Bremen.

Jay defeats Bluffton

Jay County’s volleyball team bounced back from a game-one defeat Tuesday to earn an 18-21, 21-14, 21-13, 21-17 victory over the Bluffton Tigers.

Julie Sours and Sarah Ainsworth each turned in a big match for the Patriots.

Sours led the team with 16 digs, and added five kills. Ainsworth had 17 points, five of which came on aces, and put up 25 assists.

Ashley Overla paced the team with 10 kills, and Becki Beeler followed with five. Sara Hough finished with 14 digs.

The junior varsity and freshman teams also scored victories by scores of 21-15, 21-16 and 18-21, 21-3, 21-15 respectively.

Theresa Reinhart carried the junior varsity squad with a team-best six kills. She also paced the team with 11 points, scoring eight of them with aces.

Jamie Walker had four kills, five digs and three points, and Miranda Tingley had five digs and 10 assists. Andrea Current and Markie Runyon each contributed three points.

Carissa Wilkens had 13 points, including 10 aces, for the freshman team. She also notched four kills.

Erica Clark finished with 10 points, including five aces, and eight assists. Jessica Muhlenkamp had five kills, and Maria Miller notched a pair of blocks.[[In-content Ad]]
