Fort freshmen open with win over Rangers (08/30/05)

FORT RECOVERY — The Tribe kicked off the season in excellent fashion Monday.

Fort Recovery’s freshman volleyball team came away with a victory in its first match, topping the New Knoxville Rangers 25-15, 25-14.

Annie Koesters powered the Indians, posting team highs of 10 points, four kills and a pair of blocks. She also had three digs.

Chelsea Klenke followed Koesters with eight points and eight assists.

Kelsey Wuebker, Rachel Tobe and Kelly Sudhoff each notched three kills.

Amy Hart picked up eight digs, and Melissa Tobe added four digs.

Wabash champs crowned

GENEVA — Kristen Sprunger won by a large margin. Hal Armstrong’s victory was much closer.

Sprunger and Armstrong took the women’s and men’s club championships at Wabash Valley Golf Club this weekend.

Armstrong needed every shot he could find as he held off Kevin Walker for the men’s title. He shot a 146, with Walker next at 147 and Justin Stewart third at 158.

The women’s victory for Sprunger came by 17 strokes as she posted a two-day total of 182. Karleen Sprunger was second at 199.

Jack Claussen took first in the men’s first flight with a 159, Ron Sprunger was first in the second flight at 165 and Curt Vanover topped the third flight at 183.

Snyder wins race

One local rider came away with a victory Sunday during motocross action at XPLEX Extreme Competition Park.

Clark Snyder, Portland, finished in first place in race No. 4 in the 10-11-year-old division. He outdistanced Kyle Sayre of Parker City for the win, and Fort Recovery’s Austin Breymaier was third.

Several other local drivers were awarded first place, but all came in uncontested races.

Heath Bryan of Berne posted a second-place effort in the 13th race.[[In-content Ad]]
