Fort girls teams now 8-0 (01/09/08)

Local roundup

Continued perfection was not a problem Tuesday for the Fort Recovery Middle School girls basketball teams as both rolled over St. Henry.

The Indian eighth graders ran their record 8-0 with a 33-9 trouncing of the Redskins, and the seventh grade team matched them with a 27-13 victory.

Kylie Kahlig paced the Fort Recovery eighth grade team, which shut out St. Henry in the first quarter, with nine points. Kara Faller grabbed eight rebounds, and Karissa Will scored six points.

The seventh grade Tribe led by 10 at the half and limited the Redskins to two points in the third quarter to extend its advantage.

Rachel Rammel paced the victory with 10 points, and Chelsea Pottkotter had seven points and seven rebounds.

Chiefs going strong

A pair of road games did nothing to slow the East Jay Middle School girls basketball teams as both ran their records to 6-0.

The seventh grade Chiefs shut out host Union City Westside for three quarters Monday in a 29-5 victory following a 29-8 win Thursday over Delta. The eighth graders blanked Westside in the first half of their 41-4 win after holding off Delta 22-18.

Gabbie Cross scored 10 points for the EJMS seventh graders against Westside, and Rachelle Jackson added eight points. Cross also had eight points in the win over Delta.

Mariah Hornaday and Danielle Wellman each reached double figures for the eighth graders against Westside, finishing with 14 and 10 points respectively. Maria Murphy led the victory over Delta with seven points.

Indians defeat Tribe

Fort Recovery's seventh grade boys basketball team went scoreless in the fourth quarter Tuesday, stumbling to a 28-26 loss to the Union City Indians. The eighth graders also lost, 50-44.

The Tribe seventh graders were up by three after a strong third quarter, but got outscored 5-0 in the final period to fall to 2-6. Keith Fortkamp scored eight points, and Trent Kaiser and Jacob Schoen followed with six apiece.

The FRMS eighth graders (1-7) led 16-7 after the first quarter, but could not keep the momentum. Jason Pottkotter finished with 17 points, and Jared Kahlig added 10.[[In-content Ad]]
