Fort Recovery baseball matches 2004 win total (04/18/05)

The Indians did the splits Saturday.

Fort Recovery’s baseball team split a pair of games as it visited the Tri-County North Panthers, dropping the first 13-8 before taking game two 6-5 in eight innings. The softball team also split, opening with an 8-2 loss against the host Crestview Knights, but followed with a 16-6 trouncing of the Lincolnview Lancers.

The game-two win for the baseball team was a big one, as the Tribe (8-5) has taken just three weeks to match the win total from the entire 2004 season.

The Indians trailed 5-1 after two innings in the second game, but starter Bobby Rammel and reliever Matt Hein blanked the Panthers from there. The offense also came alive, scoring twice in the fourth and seventh innings to forge a tie before adding the game-winner in the top of the eighth.

Clint Tobe went 3-for-5 for the Tribe, driving in two runs and scoring twice.

Greg Faller was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. He walked twice and scored a pair of runs.

Rammel tossed six innings, allowing just six hits while striking out six. He gave up five runs, but only one was earned.

Hein got the win in two scoreless and hitless innings of relief. He struck out three and walked two.

Fort Recovery also trailed big in the first game, allowing four runs in the second inning and five in the third to fall behind 9-0. It scored seven times in the sixth, but could not come back.

Tobe took the defeat in that contest, allowing nine runs — seven earned — on five hits.

Sean Kahlig was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and a triple. He drove in two runs and scored once.

Todd Post had two hits and two runs.

The Tribe softball team (4-7) also trailed in both contests, including 6-2 after the first inning of game two. But, it scored four times in the second inning to even the score and combined for 10 runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to pull off the split.

Krystal Rammel and Kristen Schwieterman carried the offense, each totaling two hits in the second game. Rammel doubled, drove in four runs and scored three times, and Schwieterman, had four runs, three stolen bases and a pair of RBIs.

Renee Evers had four stolen bases and three runs, and Megan Wenning notched two hits and two runs. Sandra Sudhoff finished with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs.

Tiff Gaerke grabbed the win, allowing six runs — five earned — on five hits. She struck out two and walked six, but did not allow a run after the shaky first inning.

In the first game Crestview scored twice in the first inning and three times in the third and fifth for an 8-0 advantage. Fort Recovery got its only two runs in the sixth.

Alyssa Tobe took the defeat as she gave up eight runs — six earned — on six hits. She struck out five and walked one.

Krystal Rammel had a pair of hits and an RBI. Ciera Rammel singled and scored a run.

Fort JV teams fall

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball and softball teams each went 0-2 against the Tri-County North Panthers Saturday.

The baseball team fell 12-2 and 8-5, and the softball team dropped by scores of 8-7 and 14-12.

Scott Hein and Kevin Schoenherr took the losses for the baseball team (2-7), which gave up 14 unearned runs on the day.

Kenton Sudhoff doubled and drove in a run in the first game, and Troy Metzger had a double and a run scored. Jesse Fortkamp scored twice and stole a base in the second game, Sudhoff scored twice and David Schmitt had two hits.

The losing pitchers for the softball team (4-6) were Beth May and Lori Osterholt. They were saddled with 10 unearned runs.

Heather Schmackers went 2-for-4 with two runs, two steals and an RBI in game one. Val Fortkamp finished 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in game two.[[In-content Ad]]
