Fort Recovery roundup

The Indians found their way into the win column on the holiday weekend.

The Fort Recovery baseball team picked up its first two victories of the year Saturday, sweeping a double-header against the Fairlawn Jets with wins of 12-4 and 5-4.

The Tribe had a pair of excellent fourth innings, scoring five runs in the first game and four in the second.

Fort Recovery pushed ahead 7-1 with their first fourth-inning rally and continued to fight off Fairlawn. The Jets scored three times in the fifth inning to close the gap, but the Indians put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and three more in the sixth.

The second game saw the Tribe pull ahead 5-0 with its fourth-inning outburst. It managed to hold off Fairlawn, which scored once in the fifth, twice in the sixth and once in the seventh for the final margin.

Indians fall twice

Fort Recovery simply could not get the offense going Saturday.

The Indian softball team managed just one run in a pair of losses to the Van Wert Cougars Saturday, 3-0 and 3-1.

Alyssa Tobe took the loss in the first game as she struck out six and walked two in five innings. She tossed five scoreless frames before allowing two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

She gave up three hits in the contest, and only one of the three runs was earned.

Ciera Rammel went 1-for-1 in the defeat with a double and a stolen base.

Julie Smith was the pitching victim in game two, allowing three runs — one earned — all in the fifth inning. She went the distance, striking out six and walking three.

Lisa Grisez doubled and scored a run for Fort Recovery, and Krystal Rammel doubled and had an RBI. Smith had the only other hit for the Indians.

The Tribe (4-3) returns to the field at home Friday against Fairlawn at 5 p.m.
