Fort Recovery blasts the Blackhawks

FORT RECOVERY — A dominant first quarter set the tone Saturday as the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team clobbered the visiting Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks 78-36.
Holly Brunswick led four players in double figures with 14 points for the Indians, who used a 17-0 run in the first quarter to take a 19-2 lead. They were ahead by 25 at the half and cruised to the victory as they improved to 14-2.
Kendra Brunswick followed her sister with 13 points, Nicole Dilworth scored 12 and Olivia Thien finished with 11.
Fort Recovery forced 32 turnovers in the victory, and went 19-of-22 at the foul line.
Jodi Schmitz hit all of her five foul shots and paced Mississinawa Valley with 13 points.
In junior varsity action, Chelsea Pottkotter scored 13 points to lead the Indians to a 48-20 victory. Melissa Lochtefeld added 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Starfires drop two
The South Adams girls basketball team dropped both of its games this weekend, falling 67-31 Saturday to Manchester and 46-19 Friday to Bellmont.
Katrina Hawkins scored 10 points to lead the Starfires against Manchester as they posted their highest scoring total of the season. Taylor Farlow added eight points.
Alyssa Bluhm, Allison Amstutz and Hawkins all had four points in the loss to Bellmont. SAHS (1-18), which plays Woodlan in the sectional tournament Friday, finished the regular season with 18 straight losses.
Kayla Flack led four Manchester players in double figures with 16 points, and Madison Schultz also put in 16 to pace Bellmont.

Cline earns trip
FORT WAYNE — Carly Cline of the Jay County High Rollers high school bowling team earned a trip to the semi-state tournament Saturday with her effort at the regional.
Cline finished fifth in a field of 36 bowlers in the girls regional, posting a three-game series of 539. The top 14 competitors earned semi-state berths.
The senior, who was a regional alternate and got the chance to compete when teammate Rachel Vogler was unavailable, took advantage of the opportunity. She started strong with a 200 in her opening game and added scores of 184 and 155.
She will compete in the semi-state tournament Saturday at Clancy’s Village Bowl in Muncie.[[In-content Ad]]
